Its been a long summer

So, With only 15 days until the new football season is upon us, it appears all the unanswered questions will be answered. Think back to June. Social networks were awash with nothing but negativity about events at B6. Everyone is appeared had lost faith in what was happening to our beloved Aston Villa, Off went Gerard on health grounds to be replaced by the the leader of the enemy. Big Eck. At this point i can't believe some of the events that occured, Protests. Seriously, We are Aston Villa. In Villa we trust. Yes he may have played some awful football at SHA but think about the players he had at his disposal compared to the players he has at Villa Park.
Once the dust had settled on Alexs appointment a certain player decided to go back on what he had said a few months earlier. Stand up a certain Mr Downing. No player is bigger than this club. And the way he dealt with his transfer was an absolute disgrace. Unlike the Ashley Young transfer earlier on in the summer, Where the majority of the villa faithful understand his reasons for moving on and will never hold it against him. Especially for the fee we received with only a year left on his contract. The Downing situation was the complete opposite. This player we had signed whilst injured and propelled him into the England squad. Yes he was our player of the year last season but that says more about our season that it says about his performances.
So he has gone. And we cant complain for the fee we received for him. Now the next problem how would we reinvest it after selling two of our best players?
Many names were linked, majority of which we all knew would never happen. But two names kept sticking.
Then 2 weeks ago the first name became more definite.
Probably the signing of the summer, Shay Given.
Now we need a new attacking winger and it looks as though we may get it after Wigan accepted our bid for N'Zogbia. With the team being in Hong Kong and him being on holiday this transfer has dragged out. But for a combined price of 12 million for the 2 players thats fantastic business for Villa.
Talking of Hong Kong, once again yesterday we drew Blackburn in a cup game, Being in hong kong it was a nightmare of a game to watch being a 11am Kick off but those who did get to see it should be happy with what the boss has got into the team in the short period he has been in charge. In a month he has managed something GH couldnt do in a season. He has the team defending. I know it was only a preseason game but Blackburn were up for it. The back 4 were immense, Dunne and especially MOTM Collins, Luke Young and the forgotten man of last season Stephen Warnock given his chance, were all great. And with our youthful attacking prowess things are looking promising after another great goal from Darren Bent. Could this year be the year we have a number 9 we have all been wanting for years. I think we all know the answer to that.
So now. We look forward to Saturday and the final of the Asia Cup. Against Chelsea. Dont want to tempt fate here. But we normally frustrate Chelsea. And how nice would it be to beat chelsea and pick up a preseason trophy. It would do wonders for the confidence levels.
